Refurbished in 2009 the belfry of Gembloux has a carillon consisting of 47 bells. The instrument installed in 1963 to replace the cracked great bell began to show signs of wear and tear. Its keyboard has now been restored while the links to the bells have been completely replaced, so the carillon rings out more evenly and precisely. Gembloux can pride itself on owning one of the only two concert carillons in the province of Namur.
This is a further stage in the bid to showcase the Gembloux belfry to the best effect. This outstanding example of Walloon heritage was included in UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 2005.
