St. Amand church

The St. Amand parish church, on the municipal square, was built in 1786 by Floreffe abbey according to drawings of the architect J-Fr. Wincqz. The basilical-style building with its neo-classical idiom has three naves with five well-illuminated bays and a choir with a straight bay, closed by a semi-circular apse. The overall decoration is very elemental. The 18th century presbytery was restored in the 19th century. It has two brick and bluestone storeys. The tapestries and chimneys are quite outstanding. The walls in the drawing room, parlour and a first-floor room feature canvases showing landscapes of Grand-Leez in earlier times, bouquets and bindweed. The 18th century tithe barn was revamped during the following century. A bluestone crucifix attached to a wall leading to the garden is in an amazingly archaic idiom.
