Choosing the child's surname
The filiation relationship provides individuals with their basic identity whose key constituent is the surname. Even if the married parents are living apart or in the throes of divorce proceedings their children automatically take the name of their legal father. This legal presumption may be reversed by legal proceedings.
When the mother is single, the child takes the name of the person (male) who recognises the child prior to birth or when the birth is declared to the registrar of births, marriages and deaths in the municipality where the child is born.
