Extracts from police records
Circular of 1 July 2002 amending and coordinating the circular of 6 June 1962 concerning the general instructions for extracts from police records (formerly : certificates of good character)
The party seeking the certificate has to let the municipal administration know the activity for which the extract from the police record is required. Solely one interested party is responsible for the declaration made.
A choice of 2 specimens depending on the activity
Specimen 1
Extract from the police record intended for public administrations, private individuals and private organisations, when it is requested in all cases apart from the case for which specimen 2 is provided.
Specimen 2
Extract from the police record intended for public administrations, private individuals and private organisations which is issued when it is requested to take up an activity related to education, counselling, youth assistance, child care, organising activities for or supervising minors.
Moreover, it is no longer proposed to have investigations carried out by the chief of police or the police officer, nor the opinion and observation of the mayor or his/her representative who were referred to on the former certificates of good character.
Certificate issuance time
- Specimen 1 : 2 working days
- Specimen 2 : 2 working days
Cost : according to the reason :
- Free if the certificate is issued for a job, enrolment in a school, a honour, a pension application or for a foster family.
- A fee is charged :contractor approval, adoption, loans, prison visit, personal use, foreign national, hunting, visa, shooting club, ULM club
€2.5 for municipal taxes to pay on site at the reception upon presentation of the document
To whom can the extract be issued?
The extract may delivered only to the person it concerns and, apart from exceptional cases provided for in the case of the public authorities, never directly to the public administration, private organisation or private person asking for it to be presented. However, it should be stressed that there is no objection to third persons being issued with extracts relating to people who, owing to illness, a physical disability or absence, are themselves unable to request or receive an extract, provided these third parties can prove they are duly authorised by the interested parties.
