| Skyros is located in the northern part of the Aegean Sea. The city island has managed to retain its natural character, while developing the right kind of tourism.
Skyros has been twinned with Gembloux since 1995. This first of all involved the ties Dimitri XANTHOULIS has to his place of birth. A well-known resident of Ernage and teaching at the University Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, he began by taking friends from Ernage to this island in the Aegean Sea. The twinning was then extended to Gembloux as a whole.
Exchange schemes are organised every year for young people from Skyros and Gembloux, thus providing them with opportunities to discover other cultures. The twinning also gives rise to environmental-related cooperation.
Attaching the utmost importance to their traditions the people of Skyros delight us with their folk music and dances (particularly during their prestigious carnival).  www.inskyros.gr
